Metal Rat (Geng Zi) in Winter

Midwinter beckons as we move on to the penultimate month of the Chinese calendar.  animal-1239221_1920The element of the season, Water, is at its peak with Metal weakening and Wood gaining strength.  At the heart of Winter we need all the light we can get and it may not be by chance that we begin to decorate our homes, stores and offices with lights and decorations in readiness for the Christmas season.  This will give us a huge boost at a time when the Fire of the sun is at its weakest.  It is in fact in direct conflict with the Water element in this Rat month.

The Yin Earth Pig (Ji Hai) of November now makes way for the Metal Rat (Geng Zi) of December.  The Rat (N2) is a Water animal and being located at a cardinal point of the compass, in this case North, is also one of the Peach Blossom Stars. This represents attraction, love, friendships and for those of you whose Chinese animals are the Rabbit (Mao), Sheep (Wei) or Pig (Hai) this could be a particularly good month in terms of your interpersonal relationships.  Whether you are part of a couple or looking for love you should find opportunities to enjoy the company of others during December.  Place a Water feature in the North (N2) to activate positive energies and give them a helping hand.  Another Peach Blossom animal is the Horse (Wu-S2).  It is in direct conflict with the Rat in December so if your Chinese animals are either the Ox (Chou), Rooster (You) or Snake (Si) relationships may prove slightly more difficult.  If you do not know your Chinese animal sign please contact us and we will be happy to send you the information.   The Yang Metal Rat (Geng Zi) month runs from December 7 to January 4.  In the 24 Seasons of the Solar Calendar December 7-December 21 is known as Greater Snow.  December 22-January 5 is the season of the Winter Solstice.

So how are the energies likely to behave in each sector during December?

2017-luoshuA quick précis indicates that we are about to get a ‘snapshot’ of how each sector might look in 2017 as the Monthly Flying Stars for December will be in the same sectors or palaces as the Annual Flying Stars in 2017.   Four of the sectors (coloured in the Chart) are He Tu combinations.  The most auspicious sectors in December are the East (9 Annual/8 Monthly) and Southeast (1 Annual/9 Monthly).  The North (7 Annual/6 Monthly) and the Southwest (8 Annual/7 Monthly) have both good and bad indications.  The remaining four sectors are the most inauspicious.  These are Northwest (3 Annual/2 Monthly), Northeast (5 Annual/4 Monthly), South (6 Annual/5 Monthly) and West (4 Annual/3 Monthly).

NORTH-Annual 7/Monthly 6: Resident Qi 1:                       December sees the monthly 6 White Star joining the annual 7 Red Star of Violence.  On the positive side the inherent Water Star of the North is 1 White Star and this creates a He-Tu combination with the Monthly 6 White Star.  This will strengthen the already strong Water element and serve to weaken the excess of Metal energy visiting.  The 6 White Star brings helpful people into the picture and also the possibility of a windfall or some form of increase in your wealth.  The 7 Yin Metal Star represents small sharp objects so continue to take care if you are using knives or scissors in the North.

SOUTH-Annual 6/Monthly 5: Resident Qi 9:                        The Annual 6 White Star is joined by the 5 Yellow in December.  The 5 Yellow should never be ignored so residents of the South must take care this month.  If you have a bedroom in the South moving to another room if possible would be the best course of action.  Failing that it is vital to keep the area as quiet and undisturbed as possible to prevent the worst the 5 Yellow has to offer.  As long as you are careful you may find at worst niggling issues regarding health and relationships both at  home and work and this could take its toll on your stress levels.  Remember this is the season ‘to be jolly’ so avoid the South as much as possible and enjoy the celebrations.

WEST-Annual 4/Monthly 3: Resident Qi 7:                           The annual 4 Green Literary Wood Star is joined by the Monthly 3 Jade Star of Disagreements this month.  This definitely makes the West a difficult area for December.  Wood and Metal have a conflicting relationship (Metal chops Wood) however it should be remembered that the West is the Metal of small objects (scissors and knives) and the strength of Wood in the Winter season will make it difficult for Metal to have much impact.  Relationships could be strained for anyone spending time in this location as 4 represents the female and 3 represents the male.  Better to think before you speak this month to avoid causing unnecessary arguments.

EAST-Annual 9/Monthly 8: Resident Qi 3:                            The 9 Purple Magnifying Star of the year, also the Star of Future Prosperity is joined by the 8 White Star of Current Prosperity.  That pretty much says it all.  This is the area to make the most of throughout December.  Having your main door, living area or office here will bring opportunities to you.  Remember though, as in all things when the chances arrive you have to take action to bring them to fruition.  Nothing will happen without some input on your part.  The elements here are productive with the innate Wood of the East producing Fire (9 Star) which in turn creates Earth (8 Star).

NORTHWEST-Annual 3/Monthly 2: Resident Qi 6:            The Annual 3 Jade Star of Disagreements is joined in December by the 2 Black Star of Illness.  This is never a positive combination as the possibility of illness and disagreements are always there.  Be aware and avoid speaking out of turn.  At this time of the year over-indulgence is common so if you have to use the Northwest be careful.  Stomach illness could manifest to spoil the celebrations.  Looking at it from another perspective however the 2 Star represents Kun (eldest female in the house) which combines with the resident 6 Star of Qian (eldest male).  Parental relationships should therefore be happy and harmonious.

NORTHEAST-Annual 5/Monthly 4: Resident Qi 8:             The 5 Yellow in 2016 indicates the need to be aware at all times.  December sees the 4 Green Literary Star visit.  This makes it a positive area for anyone studying or learning.  It will be important to keep the space as quiet as possible to avoid activating all that the 5 Yellow can still bring with it.  Relationships could also flourish in the Northeast whether they be personal or business.  This sector will be best as a study area in December – remember to face an auspicious direction when studying based on your Gua number.

SOUTHEAST-Annual 1/Monthly 9: Resident Qi 4:              The 1 White Star of Distant Prosperity welcomes the 9 Star of Future Prosperity in December.  This is the second most auspicious palace of the month.  In addition the 1 and 9 combine to create the ‘sum of ten’ which is always positive.  Having your office here will bring opportunities to you.  When chances come calling take action otherwise they will stay out of reach.  Spend as much time as possible in the Southeast to maximise all that it has to offer.  Remember to take time out now and again to balance work and play.

SOUTHWEST-Annual 8/Monthly 7: Resident Qi 2:            The Southwest is the main wealth sector in 2016 with the 8 White Star of Current Prosperity.  December sees the arrival of the 7 Red Star of Violence.  Remember though that the 8 White Star is currently at its peak and in an Earth Palace will still prevail.  Metal is not strong enough to overcome it.  Better to err on the side of caution here so make sure you lock doors and windows in the Southwest, especially if this is where your main door is located to ensure the negative side of the 7 Star does not have a chance to cause loss or robbery for you.

CENTRE-Annual 2/Monthly 1: Resident Qi 5:                       In 2016 the centre of a property sees the number 2 Black Star of Illness rear its head.  The welcome intervention of the 1 White Star in the centre should balance things out a little more in December.  While Earth and Water enjoy a conflicting relationship Water is by far the stronger in Winter, more likely to flood than allow Earth to absorb it.  Stomach sickness will therefore be less of an issue.  In the season of over-indulgence however it will still be better to take care and avoid too much in the way of excess to stay healthy and enjoy the celebrations.
